Abstract

In this work, a process-based approach is considered to simulate diurnal and seasonal dynamics of the methane flux in bog ecosystems, based on a parameterization of biological and physical-chemical processes leading to emission of CH4 to the atmosphere as suggested by Walter and Heimann (1999). A one-dimensional model is used to estimate the methane flux from the Michigan site (42ºN, 84ºW) and the Tomsk research site (56ºN, 85ºE). The sensitivity of the model to change the climatic factors (water table level, soil temperature) and model parameters are also studied.
